A Summer-y Tiered Fruit/Dessert Stand for Mom

This is in my parents' back yard. Their backyard is beautiful, and this is only part of it. Seriously. Like it should be in a magazine.

Since it's so freakin' hot outside, I wanted an easy project for my mom that I could do {mostly} inside. I love the tiered fruit/dessert stands, so I thought I'd make one of those for her. (Especially since she's one of Alabama's best bakers, in my honest opinion.)

I found some fun, summer-y plates at Big Lots....

Picked up some E-6000 at Walmart and one of those cheap brass candlesticks that you've probably walked past a dozen times at the thrift store. (I don't have a "before" picture of the candlestick, but you know the ones I'm talking about.)

Aren't those plates fun and perfect for summer?!

Now... I tried to start on one of these tiered stands last week, but I had an EPIC FAIL learning experience with painting the candlesticks. Since then, I have learned that it was the paint, because this time I listened to all the smart bloggers out there and used this paint...

Oh my goodness! What a difference! The paint went on so well, and I used two thin coats for good coverage.

Glued it together... and Voila!!

What do you think?

Fruit or Dessert?
