This year, we're starting the year with an empty mason jar. It will be our 2013 Memory Jar. On New Year's Eve as it turns 2014, we'll open the jar and read the memories from the year.
Here's how I made ours.
mason jar with lid
paper
twine, yarn, or ribbonhole punch
I had some scrapbooking paper on hand, so I just cut it into strips to use as the tickets for the Memory Jar.
On one ticket, I wrote 2013 with a Sharpie and punched a hole in the corner. I used twine to attach it to the mason jar. You could use ribbon or yarn, too.
(I love playing around with Picmonkey to edit my pictures. How do you like the coloring in this one?)
I'm going to use a second mason jar to hold the tickets (I'll cut more as needed through the year.) When something happens throughout the year, we'll write it on a ticket and put it in the Memory Jar. On December 31, we'll read all the memories from the year.
Here's a great quote behind why we are starting this new tradition in our family...
"The dullest pencil remembers better than the sharpest mind."
Cheers!
